About Rennyo
Rennyo was born into a family of priests in 1415, in the province of Kaga.
His early education in the Jodo Shinshu teachings deeply influenced his spiritual and leadership skills.
Following the death of his father, he entered a temple at a young age where he further refined his understanding of Pure Land Buddhism.
Rennyos to prominence began in 1460 when he was appointed as the head of the Honganji Temple.
He faced various challenges, including internal conflicts within the sect and external pressures from powerful samurai families.
Rennyo employed his keen intelligence and diplomatic skills to navigate these difficulties, consolidating the temples power and influence across Japan.
